Key Ingredient
Rutin
Rutin is a bioflavonoid commonly found in plants, fruits and vegetables. Bioflavonoids are ubiquitous in plants and commonly consumed in the human diet through fruits, vegetables and herbs. Flavonoids like rutin have various biological activities and potential health benefits, including antioxidant, inflammation, cardioprotective and neuroprotective support.*

From Seed to You
Rutin, a powerful flavonoid compound, is found in plants like fruits, vegetables and flowers, as part of their natural defense mechanism. For example, it accumulates in response to environmental factors such as UV-B radiation.
As seeds develop into mature plants, rutin concentrations can vary significantly depending on growing conditions. For instance, in buckwheat, plants sown in early summer tend to contain higher amounts of rutin compared to those sown in late summer, likely due to differences in solar radiation exposure. Interestingly, rutin content can also be influenced by altitude, with some plants grown at higher elevations showing increased rutin levels.
Once harvested, rutin-rich plant materials can be processed to extract this valuable compound, which is then used in various applications ranging from pharmaceuticals to food supplements.
Traditional Uses
You may have seen quercetin supplements out there (often with turmeric) marketing the value of the compound. Quercetin is merely a component of rutin, which contains quercetin bound to rutinose (specifically quercetin-3-rutinoside). The combination can make it more stable and potentially easier to absorb in the digestive tract.
Rutin is known for its cardioprotective properties, supporting blood vessel strength, circulation, and cholesterol management. It also has a known synergy with vitamin C (like that found in amla). When consumed together, vitamin C and rutin have shown beneficial effects stronger than consuming either alone.*
Why Formulation Matters
Everyone knows that chocolate and peanut butter are great alone, but that together they are better than their parts. Rutin is amazing, but we rarely recommend it alone. Rutin's impressive properties are enhanced when carefully combined with other ingredients for specific purposes. Our expert formulator with over 40 years of experience in enzymes and probiotics put together formulations for specific purposes, knowing how each of their parts would interact with each other.
