HemiSEB®

HemiSEB® is a unique complex of hemicellulases designed to improve the digestion of plant-based foods. Created by enzymologist Vic Rathi in 2001, it helps release nutrients trapped in difficult-to-digest plant cell walls, reduces anti-nutritional factors, and minimizes overall digestive discomfort.

Many plant-based foods are hard for the human body to digest, leaving undigested residues that can ferment in the gut and cause bloating, bad breath and discomfort. HemiSEB® helps break down these tough plant fibers, unlocking nutrients and reducing fermentation in the gut.

It also combats anti-nutritional factors (ANFs) like phytic acid and β-mannan. These ANFs can block nutrient absorption (e.g., binding calcium, iron and zinc in a way that makes them hard to absorb), potentially leading to deficiencies, slow down digestion, trap essential nutrients (e.g., phosphoric acid), and trigger the innate immune system. HemiSEB® helps the body digest these ANFs for better overall health and energy.*

The Science is Real

Plants are challenging for humans to digest due to their complex cell wall structures, which are primarily composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Cellulose consists of dense fibrils with certain chemical bonds that humans simply do not have the digestive enzymes to break down. Hemicellulose and lignin also form a matrix that is resistant to enzymatic action. Digestive enzymes like HemiSEB® specifically target these bonds, aiding the body in digesting them and releasing the nutrients trapped within them.

Further complicating digestion are certain anti-nutritive factors in plant-based foods. For example, many legumes and seeds come with a non-starch polysaccharide called β-mannan, which increases intestinal viscosity, reducing nutrition absorption. It can also trigger the innate immune system. By breaking down this substance, HemiSEB® can aid overall nutrient absorption, optimize digestive function, and support the body's healthy immune response.*

From Seed to You

As an expert in enzyme manufacturing, we source our hemicellulases directly from our own large fermentation facilities. We grow the enzymes in HemiSEB® in a small fermenter (a "seed vessel"), carefully developing them until they are ready for the big leagues (enormous fermenters that are up to three stories high).
