Bromelain
Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme derived from the stem and fruit of pineapples. The name "bromelain" was coined by the Venezuelan chemist Vicente Marcano, who first isolated it in 1891 by fermenting pineapple fruit. Bromelain is typically made by blending parts of the pineapple plant and then going through an extensive process of extraction, filtration, and purification. Pineapples have a long tradition as a medicinal plant among the natives of South and Central America. Bromelain is popularly used today for inflammation and fibrinolytic support.*

From Seed to You
We source our bromelain directly from the stem of the pineapple, which is rich in bromelain (even richer than the fruit). The incredible popularity of this nutrient-dense fruit has made faux bromelain a persistent issue in the industry. We've even seen pineapple-scented white powder being passed off as bromelain. Our skilled team has perfected the art of identifying and testing bromelain to consistently deliver a superior quality, real enzyme that meets the highest standards for food and pharmaceutical use.
Traditional Uses
Bromelain is not a single enzyme -- what we know as "bromelain" actually consists of multiple enzymes that break down proteins in different ways.
Bromelain (or the pineapple it comes from) has been a part of traditional remedies for centuries. It has been used to support both digestive health and regulation of the body's natural inflammatory response. It is also thought to have potential benefits for active individuals, including during and after workouts.
This multi-functional, versatile enzyme is actually used in many industries. For example, bromelain is commonly used as a meat tenderizer (its helps break down tough meat fibers, making the meat softer and more palatable), to make certain beers (it helps to get rid of cloudiness, making the beer clearer), and even in face cleansers (it helps exfoliate, making skin brighter). *
Why Formulation Matters
Everyone knows that chocolate and peanut butter are great alone, but that together they are better than their parts. Bromelain is amazing, but we often recommend that it is best when carefully combined with other ingredients for specific purposes. Our expert formulator with over 40 years of experience in enzymes and probiotics put together formulations for specific purposes, knowing how each of their parts would interact with each other.*
